mangosteen residence
This remodel and second-story addition was all about making the most of those gorgeous Lake Washington views—without giving the uphill neighbors a front-row seat. The homeowners wanted a place that felt functional, open, and welcoming, with a little adventurous spirit thrown in. Drawing inspiration from their travels in the warm, breezy climates of South America and Asia, we set out to create an indoor–outdoor lifestyle that works beautifully in the Pacific Northwest.
On the outside, a warm cedar-clad upper floor “floats” above a sleek, dark fiber cement base, with a huge deck right off the great room for soaking in the views. Inside, walnut floors and crisp white cabinetry keep things bright and inviting. The basement media room opens to the backyard for movie nights or playtime spillovers.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are tucked away for privacy, with the primary suite boasting sliding doors to the view and a cozy plaster-finished wet room. The kids’ rooms are connected by a secret sliding door—perfect for late-night giggles and slumber parties. A custom steel-and-walnut staircase ties all three levels together, and the flat roof is already set for a future rooftop deck—hello, Blue Angels flyover!
This home tries to strike just the right balance between serene retreats for recharging and lively spaces for entertaining, playing, and enjoying family life to the fullest.
